(4 Courses – 12 Semester Credit Hours / 180 clock hours / 3 Months)

The IT System Administrator Certificate Program is available to meet the needs of the information technology industry. The intent of this program is to prepare students to work in the Information Technology (IT) field in general, and more specifically in computer networking and system administration. Training focuses on administering a network infrastructure including systems administration using Microsoft network operating systems, network security, network management, and emerging technologies.

Students receive training on how to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair microcomputer systems to industry standards to include its operating systems. Upon completion of this program students will also possess the basic networking skills to successfully manage, install, configure, and operate various types of networks which can be customized for apprenticeship or workforce development.

Students must complete and pass all 12 Semester Credit Hours from the curricula in the categories listed below:
1. ITMS-272: Single User Operating Systems
2. ITMS-273: Network Operating Systems Administration
3. ITMS-277: Advanced Network Operating Systems
4. ITMS-240: Introduction to Messaging Systems

SINGLE USER OPERATING SYSTEMS

Description: The Single User Operating Systems course prepares students to pass the Microsoft Operating System certification examination. This course introduces operating system concepts for single-user systems. Topics include hardware management, file and memory management, system configuration/ optimization, and utilities. Upon completion, students should be able to perform operating systems functions at the support level in a single-user environment.

NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION

Description: The Network Opearating Systems Administration course prepares students for the Microsoft Server examination. This course covers the installation and administration of a Windows Server network operating system. Topics include managing and maintaining physical and logical devices, access to resources, the server environment, managing users, computers, and groups, and Managing/Implementing Disaster Recovery. Upon completion, students should be able to manage and maintain a Windows Server environment.

ADVANCED NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION

Description: This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to implement, manage, and maintain a Microsoft Windows Server™ network infrastructure. The course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining server networking technologies. These tasks include implementing routing; implementing, managing, and maintaining Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS); securing Internet Protocol (IP) traffic with Internet Protocol security (IPSec) and certificates; implementing a network access infrastructure by configuring the connections for remote access clients; and managing and monitoring network access.

INTRODUCTION TO MESSAGING SYSTEMS

Prerequisite: ITMS-273
Description: This course teaches students how to install Exchange Server, describe the process for upgrading to a newer version of Exchange Server 2003 from an older version, configure and manage Exchange Server, manage interoperability between consecutive versions, secure Exchange Server, manage recipients, manage public folders, address lists, OWA, client configuration and connectivity, routing, mobile access to Exchange, hardware resources, plan for disaster and disaster recovery, backup and restore Exchange, perform preventative maintenance, and migrate users from an older version to a newer version in an Organization.

Program Prerequisites
Attendance of the IT Network Administrator Certificate Program or a score higher than 80% on the IT System Administrator Program Free Entrance Examination. Appointment is needed to take the Entrance Examination. Please contact our Test Center Administrator, Ms. Kimberly Shelton by phone at (910) 222-1013 or by email at testing@InovaTech.edu to schedule the Entrance Examination.

How long is the Entrance Examination?
The examination is 2 hours long and it contains 50 questions verifying your knowledge of networking and security questions. This examination will give a clear understanding to the Director of Education on whether you should attend the IT Network Administrator program first, prior to starting the IT System Administrator program.

What if my score on the entrance examination is lower than 80%?
If your score is lower than 80%, the Director of Education will recommend that you take the IT Network Administrator Entrance Examination to see if the IT Network Administrator Program will fit your knowledge better. The Admission process for this program will be followed.

How much is the Entrance Examination?
The examination is free of charge.

Can I transfer any credits into this program?

Yes, however, due to the short length of the programs, no more than No more than 3 credit hours can be transferred into the IT System Administrator Program.

How much is the program tuition?
The tuition for the program is $4,200. The tuition includes the following items:
• All textbooks needed for the program
• All supplies needed for the program (notepad, pen, highlighter, pencil)
• Free snacks, coffee, and sodas for the duration of the program
• Free exam vouchers towards the first attempt of each certification exam. Each exam voucher expires within one calendar year; however, for successful results, we recommend our students to take the exam within 2-3 weeks of the completion of each course
• Free re-attendance of each course within one calendar year

How much is the application fee?

InovaTech does not charge students an application fee when applying for any of our programs.

What is the pass rate on your certification exams?
In 2010, our average pass rate on the certification exams we teach was 85.955%.

We have both a Pearson VUE and Prometric test center. Please check the Testing Services page for information on how to register for certification exams.
