IT Network Administrator Program

IT Network Administrator Certificate Program

(4 Courses – 12 Semester Credit Hours / 180 clock hours / 3 Months)

The IT Network Administrator Certificate Program is available to meet the needs of the information technology industry. The intent of the program is to provide students with the necessary computer fundamentals, software applications, and basic networking and network management skills that is coherent and provides opportunities for career advancement.

Upon completion of this program, students will also possess the basic networking skills to successfully manage, install, configure, and operate various types of networks, which can be customized for apprenticeship or workforce development.

Students must complete and pass all 12 Semester Credit Hours from the curricula in the courses listed below:
1. ITNW-130: Basic Networking
2. ITSY-215: Implementing Network Security
3. ITCC-126: Basic Routing
4. ITCC-127: Advanced Routing

This program provides the student with the necessary knowledge of computer fundamentals, basic networking and network management.

Program Prerequisites (one of the following):

‐ 80% or higher score obtained on the IT Network Administrator Entrance Exam
‐ CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Applications certificates of course completion
‐ Official score reports for passed CompTIA certification exams
‐ CompTIA A+ Membership Card

BASIC NETWORKING

Description: The Basic Networking course prepares students to pass the CompTIA Network+ examination. This course introduces the networking field. Emphasis is on network terminology and protocols, local-area networks, wide-area networks, OSI model, cabling, router programming, Ethernet, IP addressing, and network standards. Upon completion, students should be able to perform tasks related to networking mathematics, terminology, and models, media, Ethernet, subnetting, and TCP/IP Protocols.

IMPLEMENTING NETWORK SECURITY

3 Semester Credit Hours / 45 Clock Hours
Description: The Implementing Network Security course prepares students for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. Students will learn about IT industry-wide security topics, including communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, authentication, external attack, and operational and organization security. Other topics included in this course are protocols used in Linux, UNIX, and Windows 2000 in addition to the TCP/IP suite component protocols, and Ethernet operations. Students will gain knowledge in capturing, analyzing, and generating IP traffic, how to exploit protocol weaknesses and examine defensive solutions. Packet filtering, password policies, and file integrity checking are also covered.

BASIC ROUTING

Prerequisite: ITNW-130 and ITSY-215 Description: The Basic Routing course prepares students for the CCNA ICND1 certification exam. This course focuses on initial router configuration, router software management, routing protocol configuration, TCP/IP, and access control lists (ACLs). Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of router configuration, managing router software, routing protocol, and access lists. Upon completion, students should have an understanding of routers and their role in WANs, router configuration, routing protocols, TCP/IP, troubleshooting, and ACLs.

ADVANCED ROUTING

Prerequisite: ITCC-126
Description: The Advanced Routing course prepares students for the CCNA ICND2 certification exam. This course focuses on advanced IP addressing techniques, intermediate routing protocols, command-line interface configuration of switches, Ethernet switching, VLANs, STP, and VTP. Emphasis will be placed on application and demonstration of skills acquired in pre-requisite courses. Upon completion, students should be able to perform tasks related to VLSM, routing protocols, switching concepts and configuration, STP, VLANs, and VTP.

What are the prerequisites for this program?
CompTIA A+ classes, CompTIA A+ Certification or a score higher than 80% on the IT Network Administrator Program Free Entrance Examination. Appointment is needed to take the Entrance Examination. What is CompTIA A+ Certification?
CompTIA A+ certification training prepares the student to pass both the A+ Essentials examination and the A+ Practical Applications examination. The intent of the A+ Certification is to certify individuals in a body of knowledge that is identified and accepted as the baseline or foundation for entry-level PC technician employment. The Essentials examination measures essential competencies for a PC hardware service technician. The examinee must demonstrate basic knowledge of installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting, and repairing microcomputer systems to industry standards. The Practical Applications examination measures essential operating system competencies for microcomputer hardware service. The examinee must demonstrate basic knowledge of Command Line Prompt, Windows 9x and Windows 2000 for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting, and repairing microcomputer systems.

How long is the Entrance Examination?

The examination is 2 hours long and it contains 50 questions verifying your knowledge of basic computer and networking notions. This examination will give a clear understanding to the Director of Education on whether you should attend the CompTIA A+ courses prior to starting the IT Network Administrator program.

How much is the Entrance Examination?

The examination is free of charge.

Can I transfer any credits into this program?

Yes, however, due to the short length of the programs, no more than No more than 3 credit hours can be transferred into the IT Network Administrator Program.

How much is the program tuition?

The tuition for the program is $4,200. The tuition includes the following items:
• All textbooks needed for the program
• All supplies needed for the program (notepad, pen, highlighter, pencil)
• Free snacks, coffee, and sodas for the duration of the program
• Free exam vouchers towards the first attempt of each certification exam. Each exam voucher expires within one calendar year; however, for successful results, we recommend our students to take the exam within 2-3 weeks of the completion of each course
• Free re-attendance of each course within one calendar year

How much is the application fee?

InovaTech does not charge students an application fee when applying for any of our programs.

In 2010, our average pass rate on the certification exams we teach was 85.955%.
